Statement from Secretary Desmond Schatz
As you all probably know Len Harrison was recently elected as our new President. We thank Hubert Kolb for all his efforts over the past 3 years and know he will continue to be a very active member of our Society. I have assured Len that he can count on our support in his efforts to not only grow the society, but increase its standing internationally.
I hope that you are all pleased with our inaugural printed directory. This information is also available on the website (see front page). If you did not receive the directory and your dues are current please contact Michael Bonta [email protected] Only those members who are current paid up members have their names listed. If you have subsequently paid your dues, your name will be added to the growing supplement, which will be distributed shortly. There has been concern that the actual number of paid members had dropped over the past couple of years. The IDS has undertaken a successful membership drive in the past few months. Letters of invitation were sent out to: 1) all current members of the American Diabetes Association Immunology and Transplantation Council 2) potential Australian members 3) authors submitting abstracts with an immunogenetic theme to EASD 4) all past members of IDS. Over 60 new members have joined the Society in the past 6 months. The Website had undergone substantial revision and continues to improve. Members are urged to visit our site and relay their comments either to me at [email protected] or Michael Bonta at
Please take this opportunity to pay your dues for year 2001. Dues statements will be sent out in the future in the early part of each year. We look forward to seeing you at IDS5 in Chennai, India. For those not able to attend, we hope that you will be able to obtain many of the presentations on the Internet. Dr Sanjeevi has arranged for this and we hope to make the information available to you as soon as possible.
